Car bomb shockwave knocks fighters off their feet

The terrifying moment a car bomb detonates in the north of Iraq, knocking a group of fighters off their feet, has been captured on film.

As a group of armed men stand on the side of a bare stretch of road under a greying sky, the sound of a large explosion rings out in the distance with orange sparks filling the sky seconds later.

The mobile phone vision clearly shows the dramatic shockwave plume of the bomb.

The footage appears to have been taken by a fellow fighter who is standing a few metres away from the group of men.

The force of the blast, and the subsequent aftershock, throws all of the men to the ground.

Popular Mobilization Forces, an army formed to fight ISIS in the Middle Eastern region, say the explosion happened in the north of Samarra, Iraq.
