Canadian transit cop delivers extraordinary rap performance

A Canadian transit officer has been caught on camera delivering an impromptu performance at a freestyle rap event in Edmonton.

The video, posted online on 12 June, has already received more than 13,000 views.

Halley Barrantes, a Peace Officer for Edmonton Transit, attended the event at a friend’s invitation.

But he surprised everyone when he launched into a freestyle rap about subverting stereotypes and transit safety.

“You can find us on the square where we keeping the peace, patrolling always to keep the people at ease,” Mr Barrantes can be heard rapping.

“Whoever thought that a uniform could rap? And for your own safety I hope you're staying off the tracks.”

This was the second year Mr Barrantes has attended the CypherWild YEG event.

He was stunned by how well the video has been received by members of the public.

"I just wanted to go and have fun with the kids," he told CBC news. "I absolutely had no idea this would have such an impact on our community.”

"We're human … we have talents, we have families, we have skills that some people wouldn't even know.”

“We're out there doing our job just like everybody else is."
