Can of capsicum spray explodes in car on freeway

A couple in California have learned the hard way what happens when a can of capsicum spray explodes in your car.

The man was driving down a freeway in San Diego last week with his female passenger when they heard some vibrating sounds coming from somewhere in the car.

Dashcam captures the puzzled conversation of the pair as they try to work out what it is making the sound, before something suddenly explodes with a loud hissing sound.

“What the f--k was that?” the woman asks.

“Oh s--t, bear spray,” the man says.

Agonised choking and coughing sounds can be heard as the driver tries to pull over to the left.

Seeing that there isn’t enough room to pull over safely, the driver then tries to cross to several lanes of traffic to pull over to the right.

Honking furiously he manages to clear a path through the traffic.

Bursting out of the car the driver then appears in front of the camera, coughing and retching.
