Chilling video purportedly shows the frantic final moments a missing US teenager was seen alive in the ocean, after reports he was dared to jump off a party boat in the Bahamas.

Search efforts for the 18-year-old Louisiana high school graduate Cameron Robbins have ended, the US Coast Guard confirmed, citing the Bahamian military.

Cameron was on a senior trip, celebrating his graduation from a Baton Rouge high school, when he went over the side of a sunset cruise last week.

The new video, which 9news.com.au has not been able to independently verify, appears to show Cameron immediately after he jumped into dark waters, splashing around.

In seconds, to the dismay and shock of onlookers, he disappears from view.

"This kid f-----g jumped off!" one person onboard said.

"Grab the buoy," another witness yells, while someone screams about "the current".

Cameron had been staying at Atlantis Paradise Island resort in Nassau, WAFB reported.

The news outlet said Cameron had jumped off as part of a dare.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, which had been searching for him, told the US Coast Guard it was suspending active search efforts on Friday (local time).

The coast guard had helped with the search, it said.

Cameron was described as a "fierce competitor" by his high school baseball coach, Justin Morgan, who said the teen was both a third baseman and pitcher on the team.

The school community has been struggling since hearing news of Cameron's disappearance, Morgan said.

"Our thoughts and prayers have been and will remain with Cameron's family during this time," he said.
