English bus driver and passengers convicted for punch-up over fare

An English bus driver and two passengers have been convicted of affray after a dispute over a fare turned violent.

The punch-up captured on CCTV played out early in the morning of March 27 at Bexley in Greater London.

The stoush erupted after Sean Dickson, 23 and Tyler Belgrave-Beeds, also 23, boarded the bus then quickly got off.

As one of the would-be commuters alighted he tampered with the vehicle's side mirror, prompting 43-year-old driver David Newstead to get out and confront the pair.

Newstead threw a punch and one of the young men picked up an object and hurled it at the bus before the situation escalated.

A fight ensued that saw flurries of punches thrown and Newstead tackle one of the men to the ground.

After a few minuted police arrived on the scene and arrested the men, who were later charged with affray.

David Newstead, 43, of Lansdeer Avenue in Gravesend, pleaded guilty in May and was handed a six-month conditional discharge.

Dickson and Belgrave-Breeds were found guilty at Bromley Magistrates' Court yesterday.

They are due to return to court on November 7 for pre-sentence reports.
