Bruce Springsteen signs student’s absent note to get him out of trouble

A fifth grade student skipped school with the help of an American rock legend, perhaps cementing his excuse note as one of the greatest on the ‘Streets of Philadelphia’.

Michael Fenerty, from Masterman School in Philadelphia, missed school after seeing Springsteen play live at Citizens Bank Park last month with his father, Mike, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Mike sent his son to a fan meet-and-greet last week, where the fifth grader slipped Springsteen the absence note and asked him to sign it.

"My son said, 'Bruce, would you sign my absence note?' [Springsteen] lit up. He was affectionate toward Michael as soon as he saw him.

"He said, `I have to read it first, that's how I got in trouble with my first contract,'" Mr Fenerty told the newspaper.

"He said, 'I hope you don't get in trouble.' My son was very starstruck, it was a very cool experience."
