British man cops racial abuse for having Asian girlfriend
A Taiwanese man has been arrested after being filmed unleashing a racist tirade against a white man for having an Asian girlfriend.
Christopher Hall said he had been sitting with his girlfriend on a Taipei train on October 15 when the spectacled man began abusing them, Hong Kong Free Press reports.
"Just looking at you makes me sick, you are nothing, you foreign scrounger," the man says, while leering at Mr Hall menacingly.
"You are not welcome here. F—k off back home."
He then turns his attention to Mr Hall's girlfriend.
"The whole of Taiwan despises you, you f----ing whore," he says, before adding in English the couple were "f---ing pitiful."
Mr Hall, a British national who has lived in Taiwan for more than a decade, then tells him he is being filmed.
"Go on, record everything. I won't be guilty of anything," he says.
Mr Hall uploaded video of the exchange to his YouTube channel on Wednesday, after being unhappy with how police initially handled his complaint.
The man has since been arrested.
"When he said this, I have to admit it affected me," Mr Hall said.
"Also, I've been with my girlfriend for a long time – many years. To hear someone say that to her… I will get upset."
