Brazen thieves steal $400k statue in broad daylight

Danish authorities admit they have no clue as to the whereabouts of a 19^th century statue worth more than $400,000 stolen in broad daylight from a museum by a bold pair of thieves.

Security images from Copenhagen's Glyptoteket museum clearly show the men, dressed like tourists, strolling through the building before they made off with the 1863 bronze bust by Rodin.

Although the museum itself refused to give an estimate on the value of "Man with a Broken Nose", local media suggests it is worth about $408,000.

"So far we have no indications of where it has gone and police investigations are ongoing," News.com.au quotes Jakob Fibiger Andreasen, a spokesman for the museum, as saying.

Other security vision shows the men visiting the Glyptoteket in July and disabling the alarm protecting the precious work.

“They were inside the museum to reconnoitre about a week prior to the theft,” Inspector Ove Randrup of Copenhagen police’s robbery and theft unit told dailyPolitiken.

"Whoever may have taken the statue will have difficulty in moving it, as it has been reported to both Interpol and Europol," Mr Andreasen said, adding that the statue will likely prove difficult to sell.
