A 5-year-old boy under observation in a New York hospital over concerns he had Ebola has tested negative for the disease.

The boy was experiencing a 39.44C fever after returning from Guinea on Saturday, ABC News reported.

He remains under isolation as a precaution and is under observation at Bellevue Hospital.

The negative test comes after the city faced its first positive diagnosis last week.

Dr Craig Spencer worked in Guinea recently with Médecins Sans Frontières and fell ill upon his return to the United States.

He is being treated at the same hospital as the five-year-old boy.
