Boy, 14, in custody after four students injured during shooting at high school in US state of Ohio

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot four people at his Ohio high school.

The shooting happened just before 11.30am local time Monday when the student allegedly opened fire in the school cafeteria of Madison High School in Middletown using a .380 calibre handgun.

Police said the shooter is now in police custody.

According to a Facebook post written by Madison Local Schools, the school and other local schools were placed in lockdown for several hours following the attack.

“No students can be picked up at this time as we are not allowing anyone in or out of the buildings,” the post read.

Middletown Division Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw said in a statement that the lockdown was a precautionary measure.

“We have received no threats towards anyone at Middletown Schools.

“Our prayers are with everyone in Madison during this tragic time, I just cleared the scene and it was hectic,” he said.

Police said two students were shot and two others were injured from shrapnel, however their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.  

The shooter has been charged with attempted murder in the Butler County juvenile court.
