The unsettling sound of a woman's bone snapping was broadcast on live television after her forearm broke during an arm wrestle.

The two muscular women involved were competing for a new car on the Argentinian television program En Que Mano Esta when they were challenged to an arm wrestle on Friday.

Fighting for the coveted title of 'Iron Lady', the two women flexed their muscles and showed off their brute strength before a disturbing crack rang out in the studio.

The forearm of the injured contestant, identified only as Pamela, bent backwards as a shocked look crept onto the other competitor's face.

She quickly tried to support Pamela's arm as medics rushed onto the stage.

Pamela remained calm despite her significant injury, which was first suspected to be a dislocation.

The host confirmed a short time later that she had in fact broken her arm.

"She’s been put in plaster and tomorrow she’s going to be operated on. It’s a terrible shame and we will be attentive and help her," Chino Leunis said.

"It was a great shock for everyone involved, I can assure you," he added.
