Beginner paraglider's painful crash landing caught on helmet camera

A Norwegian novice paraglider was lucky to walk away from a nasty crash after he was buffeted out of the sky by heavy winds.

Mihhail Lebedko was paragliding at Geiranger Fjord, in the country's east, when strong winds took the greenhorn by surprise.

Travelling at too high-a-speed for a safe landing, it seemed inevitable that Lebedko would crash land.

After narrowly missing a series of sharp rocks, he glided over a road and caught a road barrier - cascading into a harrowing downwards spiral onto the jagged rocks below.

Helmet-cam shows his sunglasses flying off his face as he plummets towards the ground, where he landed painfully on his backside.

"The fall itself was not painful but the real pain came 30 minutes later," Lebedko told Caters.

"Luckily, my legs were not broken but I had a lot of deep cuts and was bleeding quite heavily."

Having only taken up paragliding a year ago, Lebedko admitted that he was not experienced enough to fly when the winds were that strong.
