Bees attack allegedly intoxicated driver after car crash

An allegedly intoxicated driver was attacked by a swarm of bees after crashing his car into a pole hosting a hive in the US state of Kentucky.

Witness Gary Anderson told US news station WKYT he was heading towards his home on Patton Spur Road in Laurel Country when he heard “a big boom” earlier this week.

“I looked back out my door and the electric pole fell and the lines were falling. And the GeoTracker was sideways into the fence,” he said.

The car’s occupants, a 36-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were reportedly looking for a place to swim when they crashed into the utility pole.

Unbeknownst to the couple, the pole was home to a hive of bees.

“They were screaming… like chickens with their heads cut off”, Mr Anderson said of the resulting chaos.

The pair was taken to a local hospital to be treated for bee stings and minor injuries, local police said.

They were allegedly under the influence of drugs when the incident occurred.

The man has been charged with driving under the influence, while the woman was charged with public intoxication.
