Hiker treks to rim of erupting Mount Agung in Bali

Bali’s Mount Agung has been erupting on and off for months, creating travel havoc and stranding passengers at airports but one hiker appears to have taken an extraordinary risk in a bid for a picture.

He hiked up to the edge of the volcano and filmed the experience on Wednesday, according to local media.

The footage is spectacular – giant plumes of smoke and ash swirling in the air in an angry mass – but it does feel dangerous.

Local media reports entering the red zone of Mount Agung is an act of violation.

“Very dangerous because it can suddenly erupt,” a  spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Agency said.
