Baby survives horror smash after car flip

A baby had a miracle escape after the car it was travelling in flipped and smashed into another car on an English highway.

The four-month-old was in a baby seat in a White Volvo saloon when the car crashed into a lorry and flipped over on the M5 in the Midlands, skidding on its roof and into a blue hatchback.

With sparks flying, the hatchback smashed head-on into a highway divider and span in a 360 degree turn.

The Volvo ended up resting on a grass embankment, with the baby thankfully unhurt.

A lorry captured the crash on its dashcam in 2014, and the Welsh hauling company that owned the lorry, Owens Group, has released the footage to illustrate why dashcams can solve insurance disputes.

"Our driver helped as best he could and phoned the police. Everybody was able to get out," spokesman Mike Colborne said.

"We now have the forward-facing cameras in all our vehicles. We were trialling it at the time and that was enough for us.

"It is totally down to protecting the driver and the company."
