A mother in China had to have emergency services step in after she gave birth in a public toilet.

The unidentified woman was reportedly squatting over a pit toilet when the child "accidentally" came out.

A local television station was there to capture its rescue, as an emergency worker ventured into the slurry beneath to feed it back through the gap to a waiting colleague.

Incredibly the baby, whose gender is not known, appeared unharmed.

The infant cried as it was wrapped in a blanket and carried to a nearby ambulance, as a precautionary measure.

It is not clear where in China the incident took place.

The footage was shared on LiveLeak yesterday where it has been viewed thousands of times.
