Rumble in the jungle: Baby elephant fights off 14 lions

It is a jungle fight like no other; a baby elephant versus 14 lions.

After straying from its mother, the one-year-old was ambushed by a pack of lions at the Norman Carr Safaris Chinzombo Camp in Zambia.

Outnumbered but clearly not outmuscled, the feisty elephant fights off the desperate lions by kicking and swinging his trunk at them.

One particularly determined lion even manages to climb atop the elephant's back and hold on for dear life until the youngster begins wading deep in to the water.

The intense battle was captured by journalist Jesse Nash who was on a game drive safari with friends when he encountered the fight.

"In the 30-plus years I have been a safari guide in Zambia at Luangwe Park, never have I seen anything like this," Innocent, a top safari guide who works with Norman Carr Safaris and drove the group to the site, told the New York Post.

"We were all so worried the baby elephant would be killed right before us."

Innocent said the baby elephant has since been reunited with his herd and given a new nickname: "Hercules. What a fighter."
