Australian musician injured in suicide bombing

An Australian musician has reportedly been wounded in a Taliban suicide bombing in Afghanistan.

Ahmad Naser Sarmast, who works at Monash University, was watching a play in a packed auditorium at Istiqlal High School in Kabul when the attack was carried out,SBS has reported.

Several people were killed and 15, including Mr Sarmast, were rushed to hospital.

"I was watching the drama and my students were playing some music when I heard a blast," Dr Sarmast said.

"I thought it was part of the drama but I touched my head and saw it was bleeding, and then I fell down.  I don't know what happened next.”

Dr Sarmast works at Monash and at the Musician's Institute of Afghanistan.

He has helped bring music back to the streets of Kabul after it was banned by the Taliban.

French President Francois Hollande condemned the bombing as an attack on "culture and creativity."

The last NATO forces will pull out of Afghanistan in coming weeks.
