A young girl bravely resisted a would-be predator who snatched her from behind the counter of her family's store.

CCTV footage shows the seven-year-old alone in the convenience store in the town of Dongguan in southern China's Guangdong province.

A man enters and looks around the store before he appears to browse some products close by the girl.

After checking there are no other customers, he approaches the girl and lifts her up.

Footage shows the child desperately clinging to the counter.

But the much stronger man lifts her and carries her from the store.

Luckily the girl’s screams alerted people outside in the street who rushed to her aid and detained the would-be kidnapper before police arrived.

Officers later identified the man as having the surname Huang and is aged 36.

The girl was uninjured after her ordeal, police said.
