Blaze kills 13, injures six at northern France bar

At least 13 young people have reportedly died after a blaze tore through a bar during a party in the city of Rouen, northern France.

The fire broke out about 12.50am local time at the Cuba Libre bar, located in central Rouen, in Normandy.

It is believed a group of young people were having a birthday party in the bar’s basement.

More than 50 firefighters attended the scene and found 13 bodies inside the bar. Six others were taken to a local hospital, RT News reported.

All of the victims were reportedly aged between 18 and 25.

France’s Minister of the Interior, Bernard Cazeneuve, said an investigation is underway.

A Rouen police commander told NBC News he believed the fire was accidental.

One source close to the investigation said that candles on a birthday cake may have sparked the blaze.

A number of witnesses posted the dramatic scenes of the fire on Twitter.

Video showed firetrucks surrounding the Cuba Libre, which appeared to have broken windows likely caused by the blaze.
