Astronauts' electrical repair job would make any sparkie jealous

Few sparkies can boast of a more exhilarating wiring job than two astronauts who ventured out the International Space Station (ISS) to lay essential cables.

The space walk 400kms above the Earth was captured on the space men's GoPro video and shows the beauty and loneliness of space, reports Time.com.

In a six-hour walk on March 24, NASA's Shane Kimbrough, the commander of the ISS, and Thomas Pesquet, of the European Space Agency, put down cables and completed other electrical work in preparation for the arrival of commercial crews from next year.

Their main task involved disconnecting an old port that needed to be moved to make room for a new docking device.

It consisted of pretty mundane manual labour, but for the millions of people watching the stunning images it showed the vastness and beauty of space.

It marked the start of three space walks from the ISS.

Yesterday, Kimbrough and NASA's Peggy Whitson headed out into the vacuum of space for another spacewalk. Whitson and Pesquet will leave the airlock for the last spacewalk in the series on April 6.
