Bus and truck collide in Congo, 27 dead

At least 27 people have died after a bus and a truck collided in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr Sylvain Yuma of the health ministry said on Tuesday the accident occurred overnight and excessive speed was to blame.

The crash occurred in Kisantu in Kongo-Central province, about 200 kilometres southwest of Kinshasa.

Yuma says at least 17 people are hurt, six of them seriously. They have been taken to Kinshasa.

A mother and baby are among the dead.
