Boy, 9, renews vows with wife, 62

Photos of a nine-year-old boy and his 62-year-old wife renewing their vows in South Africa have caused a storm online.

Saneie Masilela remarried his bigamist bride, Helen Shabangu, recently as part of a local tradition, reports BuzzFeed.

Photos show the bride in a white gown putting a ring on the young boy, who wears a suit, before bending down and kissing him on the lips.

The pair, both of Kildare village, first exchanged vows in 2013.

Saneie apparently believed the marriage was what his dead ancestors wanted.

"If we hadn't done what my son had asked, then something bad would have happened in the family," his mother was quoted as saying.

"People keep asking will they live together, sleep together, have babies, but I keep telling them that after the wedding everything went back to normal — nothing changed. All this ceremony is for making ancestors happy. We are playing."

Shabangu's husband of 30 years also said he approved of the marriage.

"My kids and I are happy because we don't have a problem with her marrying the boy. I don't care what other people say," Alfred Shabangu was quoted as saying.

Saneie said he will continue going to school and expects one day to marry a woman his own age as well.
