Exclusive: Rodger Corser reveals the one iconic role he hopes his kids never see

EXCLUSIVE: Very few actors can say that they've been a consistent character on Aussie screens for close to three decades, but Rodger Corser is one of them.

Corser first appeared on TV when he landed a role on McLeod's Daughters, and his portrayal of Steve Owen on Underbelly was a smash hit and today we see him in a very different light as the host of The Floor.

But, Corser tells nine.com.au that among his extensive portfolio of television and acting work, there's one gig he's happy if his young children never see.

Rodger has three children with his wife Renae, son Budd, 15, daughter Cilla, 13, and another son Dustin, 10. He is also father to 23-year-old Zipporah who he shares with ex Christine Anu.

"My daughter [Cilla] came home the other day, and she goes, 'Dad, were you in Puberty Blues?'" He laughs.

"That mid-teenage generation will pick [the show] back up again every few years, probably our series even more than the 70s one, because it feels a bit more current.

"But they'll pick it up because they can see places and they know the beaches and it feels like a bit of their childhood.

"She's like, 'Yeah, you weren't very nice in that, were you?' And I go, 'No, you don't have to watch that one, thank you. We can skip that one'."

While he's happy to give Puberty Blues a miss for now, Corser says that his kids have become fans of The Floor, getting their first taste through the American series while their dad studied up for his new hosting gig.

After a very "well-received" first season, the second season of The Floor is set to hit our screens on Sunday, April 19.

"Game shows are having a resurgence at the moment, and so we're happy to ride a bit of that wave," he says.

But the big difference this season is that the contestants are coming in with a bit more knowledge of how it all works, which means the strategy has gone up a notch.

"When people come into a first series, not everyone's seen the international ones, so they come in a bit blind," he explains.

"But there is strategy to it ... like other game shows have your own personal category, but if you're going to go deep, that's going to be probably one of anywhere between 5 and 10 duels you're going to play.

"So you need to have knowledge of other things. So it's [about] the broad knowledge."

For Corser, his strategy would be to steer clear of the people with expertise in a certain topic, and instead try to play the jack-of-all-trades, a strategy he's also taken to in terms of his career.

He's gone from building a career on network dramas to now hosting one of Australia's most popular game shows, but he says that the openness to try new things is all part of the gig.

"I think everything's so different in the media landscape now ... I did car ads for the one company for probably 10 years. I sort of have a crack at anything," he says.

"I was saying before to someone that I've always been a bit of a jack-of-all-trades where I'm happy to give anything a go and to keep the career in this country where it's a smaller industry, not as big as the US and UK, you've got to be able to change and evolve with the times and also what's on offer, what jobs are there.

"You've got to be open to doing a little bit of everything. And it's fun! It's fun to jump into other gigs. You don't get bored."
