Clever $3 hack makes cleaning your ceiling fans incredibly easy

Ceiling fans have to be one of the worst things to clean, yet they're also one of the biggest dust traps in your home.

They don't get much use through winter, but as soon as the weather warms up we go reaching for the switch.

But it can mean that by turning it on full-blast for the first time, you spray dust across the room — not ideal. And with summer fast approaching it's the last thing you want to deal with.

Luckily, there's a really easy way to clean your ceiling fan and it will only cost you $3.

In a cleaning hack that keeps going viral, people are using pillowcases to clean the blades of their ceiling fans. The best thing is you probably have an old one hiding at the back of the linen cupboard you can dedicate to cleaning.

All you need to do is grab a pillowcase and carefully put it over the blade of the ceiling fan. Then just slide it off.

The best bit of this hack is it stops any of the dust from the fan falling down onto the floor (or you).

For an extra clean you can spray the inside of the pillowcase with a mix of vinegar and water first. This will help to move any stubborn dust or marks on the fan, especially if it hasn't been cleaned in a while.

Instagram users who have tried this trick say they then simply tip the dust into the bin and a quick wash of the pillowcase returns it to its former glory. So you could even use a spare pillowcase you already had lying around.
