Charli Robinson knows it’s impossible to go to Melbourne without indulging in its fabulous food and café culture.  On every visit she hears about a new and exciting place to visit.

Melbourne enjoys the reputation of being Australia’s cultural capital and as it’s an easy city to navigate, it’s the ideal place to enjoy a walking tour.

Monique Bayer runs Walk Melbourne Tours.  She’s not just passionate about her city but a fanatical foodie.  She was the proud winner of the 2014 RACV Victorian Tourism Award for Youth Achievement.

Her walks are not only for visitors but are enjoyed by locals who want to go to places they’ve not visited before.  There are several walks available, tailored around the interests of Monique’s guests.

Padre coffee

Discerning coffee drinkers have four Padre Coffee outlets to choose from, and the one in Elizabeth Street’s charming and historic Royal Arcade was where Monique began her tour.  Not just coffee, albeit said to be the best in Melbourne, but equally delicious teas, chocolate drinks and snacks.  If you want to emulate their coffee at home, they have a range of coffee-making equipment.

La Belle Miette

After an interesting and informative walk, Monique couldn’t resist a stop at La Belle Miette, Melbourne’s macaron specialist patisserie.  They also have four locations, each one enjoying a loyal following.

They use pure fruit purees, premium vanilla beans and Fleur de Sel de Guérande, a salt that forms the thin, delicate crust.  There are around sixteen flavours to choose from and they sell the delicious morsels in delightful little boxes holding 6, 12 or 18 macarons.  The perfect gift.

They also have a range of France’s Mariage Frères tea, considered by many to be the best in the world.

In between delicious drop-ins, Monique leads the way to some of Melbourne’s hideaways and laneways.  Each has its own personality and without fail, walkers make a note to return.

Clementine’s

This provider of fine Victorian food and gifts was established by Melanie Ashe in 2011.  It’s packed with Victorian treasures with everything from quirky gifts to jams and hand creams.

Many of Clementine’s clients purchase hostess gifts and it’s a pleasure to open a special gift of tea, honey, olive oil or a special sauce, sweet or savoury.

They also have quality ceramic kitchenware – stoneware and porcelain – designer homewares, aprons, tea towels and much much more.

Rooftop Bar Curtin House

After walking, talking, sipping the best coffee, eating some marvellous food and fitting in a little shopping, where better to finish your Walk Melbourne Tour than at one of the city’s best rooftop bars.

The Rooftop Bar at Curtin House has a grand view and the option of your choice of beverage.  It attracts a mixed clientele and has a super relaxed atmosphere.

From December through to the end of March, the Rooftop Cinema takes over every night except Monday and Friday.  Access to the roof is restricted to ticket holders after 8pm.

You’re bound to agree with Charli that a gentle walk around the city of Melbourne is an ideal way to get the feel of this very special place.
