Highlights:
Meandering through the Dutch Delta with Scenic Pearl, David quickly understood why the vessel is dubbed a "Space-ship". Whether you are on the upper deck, the lounge or even your own ultra-luxurious suite, there's no shortage of places to relax and watch the world go by. Like a plush hotel room that happens to float, Scenic Pearl offers the ultimate vantage point to watch the quintessential Dutch scenery drift by.
At the next port of Bruinisse, David ventured to the nearby town of Veere on a Scenic Freechoice tour. The small holiday village is perfect for discovering on foot, the cobblestone streets reveal historic evidence of a time of power, wealth, religion, defence and Scotland! With so many stories from its past, David started at the imposing Great Church, which was once taken over by Napoleon and turned into a barracks, hospital and horse stable! Veere was also once the centre of the profitable wool trade between Scotland and the Low Countries, thanks to ties with the Scottish Royal family.
Two Scottish mansions have been turned into the Museum Veere, a fascinating look into the diverse past of the Zeelandic city. Fish stalls near the harbour sell the local delicacy of 'soused' herring, pickled, covered in raw onion and eaten whole! David was game to try, but soon declared; if you can handle the herring, the rest of your day is guaranteed to be pure happiness.
David's Scenic river cruise and Bruges city extension was a wonderful blend of history and culture, delving into Europe's captivating waterways. It was ultra-luxury the whole way with unrivalled inclusions and service.
