Highlights:
Just 10 minutes south of Coffs Harbour, Sawtell is a vibrant but tranquil town with stunning beaches and wilderness areas on its doorstep. Charli headed to Boambee Creek, a popular spot for families, a few minutes north of the town. There she met up with Matt from C-Change Adventures. He offers kayaking eco-tours suitable for all ages and skill levels, from thrilling ocean and whitewater river rafting to calm creek paddles, which is what Charli signed up for. While they paddled up Boambee Creek, Matt, who has a degree in Marine and Environmental Science, talked about the rich marine and bird life of the estuary. Back on shore Charli had a go at yabbying!
After a few hours on the water, Charli visited the main street of Sawtell which is shaded by beautiful old fig trees and has a collection of galleries, cafes and unique stores. Brooke George Boutique is a local jewellery, fashion and homewares store, which started as a hobby and has grown into a successful business. Charli was impressed by the variety of products made by Brooke or sourced from local brands and small businesses.
After all that exercise and shopping it was time to refuel, and locals recommended their favourite, Cafe Treeo. Serving delicious seasonal, locally sourced food, great coffee, and cheeky cocktails, Charli could see why. Manager Leah said Sawtell has a unique vibe, combining natural charm with urban energy. A place to relax, explore, and connect with nature.
The east coast of Australia has some amazing surprise packages when it comes to seaside villages. For Charli, Sawtell is a stand out, a place where you can get active on a kayak, take a long leisurely beach walk, or just chill out with the locals and enjoy the easy going village vibe and tasty food!
