What to look for in a good holiday rental: 'Can make or break your holiday'
Choosing the right holiday rental can feel like a lot of pressure. You need something that fits each guest comfortably, includes all the amenities you're after, is in a decent location... and all without spending more than you should.

She has stayed in hundreds of properties across popular destinations including Bali, Thailand, and Japan.
"Whether you're seeking a secluded beachfront villa or a chalet overlooking the ski slopes, understanding what to look for in a holiday rental can make or break your holiday," she tells 9Travel.
Here, Steph shares some of the top things she looks for in choosing the best holiday home:
The Look and Feel
Ninety nine per cent of the time one of the key reasons I book a holiday rental is because of its design and interiors. As they say, a picture paints a thousand words! I look for properties that provide spacious living areas, modern conveniences and small indulgences like an in-villa spa or a cinema room to get the family together in the evenings!
One of my favourite places is Sava Beach Villas in Natai Beach, Phuket. Each villa has unique features; be it a large lawn football pitch, steam and sauna room, kid's playground, or beauty and hair salon.

Location, Location, Location
This will vary depending on the type of trip you're embarking on. For example, if you're looking to reset and do nothing but read and lounge by the pool, a quieter, more scenic location would do the trick.
However, if you crave the vibrancy of local nightlife, outdoor activities or things to do with the kids, then convenience is key - you want to be near attractions and activities you enjoy and limit heavy traffic time.
Ultimately the rule of thumb is to choose a location that suits your preferences and the destination.
Personalised Service
A beautiful property is not a winner without service to match it, and exceptional service can change a holiday from good to unforgettable. Properties where the hospitality is warm and that offer personalised services such as a villa manager, dedicated staff, daily housekeeping, and private chefs, provide a level of convenience and luxury that I find hotels often can't match.
For example, a private chef in Bali or Thailand can be an affordable extravagance, where the cost of food is simply the grocery bill plus a nominal handling fee to have all your meals cooked for you.

I also like to look for somewhere where the level of service goes above and beyond, be it arranging a cake for a birthday or taking into consideration whether you're travelling with young children.
Unique features and activities
A standout holiday rental for me includes unique details or activities that add to the overall experience.
This could be anything from architectural design to local excursions, private yoga decks to tennis courts.

Lastly, always check reviews and recommendations from previous guests. Authentic feedback provides valuable insights into the property's strengths and areas for improvement.
Look for consistently positive reviews that highlight key aspects such as cleanliness, service, and overall experience.
