The $4 buy you should tuck into your suitcase every time you travel

Next time you pack your suitcase to go on holiday, make sure you tuck an empty Ziploc bag in there.
In fact, put in a few, in a couple of different sizes.
Because according to many frequent travellers, they're the most handy thing to have while you're on the go.

On a recent holiday, I used Ziploc bags to organise everything in my carry-on bag: baby change stuff in one, snacks in one, chargers in one, and toiletries in another. It really saved me from rummaging through my huge backpack any time I needed something.
Recently, a traveller posted a thread to Reddit sharing some of their biggest travel recommendations. "I travel 100+ nights a year for work. Here's how I travel," they wrote.

And while they did have some great tips, the real gems were in the comment section.
The top comment reads: "I always have some extra sealed bags of different sizes," going on to say that they're great for food, laundry, wet clothes, and more.

Then dozens of others chimed in to add their two cents, and all the various things they've used resealable bags for, in a pinch.
"I have several sizes of ziplocks tucked in my suitcase pocket," another person added, saying that the small ones are great for leaky toiletries and cosmetics.
Another great use? "I was in Chicago having deep dish pizza and ordered way too much. The box they gave me would dry out the leftovers. I packaged it like I would at home and it all fit in my mini fridge! No mess!"

One commenter said that resealable bags are great for smelly laundry. "Putting something damp in an unsealed bag can make the whole luggage smell," they wrote.
Another says that using a big Ziploc bag was really handy for compressing snow pants and fitting them into a suitcase.
They're good for safeguarding against spills, too.
"My mum always used a cheap sandwich bag or a piece of Saran Wrap to seal shampoo bottles: unscrew the lid, place the plastic over the opening, reseal the bottle. No leaks ever," read another comment on the Reddit thread.

A few people also chimed in with ideas for other bags that can be handy in a pinch: the bags in a hotel ice bucket, or the ones they provide you for laundry.
"I take the laundry bag from every single hotel room I stay in, whether I need it or not. I recently started bringing a small trash bag because the laundry bags usually have air holes in them," someone wrote.
And considering you can get a pack of 20 for about $4 at any supermarket, this is one of the most cost-effective travel hacks out there.
