Ditch your coffee to go to…

It is the lifeline of our day, the kick starter of our mornings and even the boost in martini form at night – yep, coffee. We are a nation that just can't get enough of the strong stuff.

And our insatiable appetite for espresso-based beverages ensures that the bean industry is absolutely booming. At last check, it was cashing-in at an eye-watering $1.1billion a year in Australia alone.

To put that into perspective, if we all pitched-in together and ditched our morning flat white, we could buy 100 seats to the moon with Space Adventures or own the Chicago Cubs, if baseball is your thing.

Sadly for us, we pay more for our morning pick-me-up than most other countries around the world.  In some areas of Australia, a cup can cost a staggering $5.88.

And prices are expected to only keep going up, with recent reports out of Indonesia saying they are struggling with our constant and increasing demand for quality bean.

But the likelihood that all the country's coffee aficionados will quit their habit, club together and fly to outer space is well, very slim really.

But how far could your coffee fuel travel if you quit? After all, each individual will fork out $1522 on takeout coffees (and that doesn't even include the Friday night espresso martinis) every year.

So, we did the math and here's where your daily cup of the good stuff could land you in air miles…

Auckland

It would take a third of the year to get return flights to enjoy some time over the ditch in Auckland, where ironically the coffee is very good.

Tokyo

In less than six months, you could be saying konichiwa in Japan's hustling hub Tokyo. Visit when the cherry blossom covers the street and the buzz of the natural beauty will be better than your morning latte.

Bangkok

It would take 145 cappuccinos to get to Bangkok, to get to those rooftop bars, the food markets and that unrivalled Asian hospitality. If you have two coffees a day, that would take just two and a half months.

New York

A year's supply of coffee could fly you to New York and you'd still have enough left over for an internal flight for more adventures. Winning!

London

That enviable European summer is calling, but only if you give up the good stuff for just under a year. Worth it for the Instagram envy shots, right?
