Tourist lashed by angry crowd for climbing on Mayan pyramid fined $385
A tourist has been fined over $300 after climbing and dancing on a Mayan pyramid in Mexico, which saw her mobbed by angry onlookers and go viral across social media.
Footage of a blonde woman wearing red pants, a blue t-shirt, and a hat, has been circulating on TikTok and Twitter, after she ignored the rules barring visitors from climbing Mayan Temple of Kukulcán in Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO heritage site.
Now dubbed "Lady Chichén Itzá", she could be seen climbing the stairs before briefly going inside the temple room and then dancing at the top of the steps.

She then made her way back down only to be met by an irate crown of onlookers, as well as officials with the Mexican Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
In the videos, people can be heard calling the woman an "a–hole" and an "idiot" in Spanish. There were also chants of "jail, jail, jail" and "lock her up" in Spanish. As the crowd closed in, others poured water over the woman, and some threw bottles and other projectiles.
The Mayan pyramid, named in 2007 as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World by UNESCO, has been off-limits to visitors since 2008 for preservation purposes.
The woman was originally thought to be from Spain, but has now been identified as a 29-year-old Mexican national.

Abigail Villalobos had attempted to pass herself off as a Spaniard after she was arrested, officials said.
Villalobos was detained for about 30 minutes at the Tinum police station, fined the equivalent of $385 and then released, Mexican news outlet Golfo Pacifico reported.
The temple, also known as El Castillo, has not been harmed, The National Institute of Anthropology and History confirmed afterwards.
Which was lucky news for the woman as penalties established by Mexico's Federal Law on Monuments and Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Areas range anywhere from $US2,500 to more than $US5,000 ($7,300).
