Should pets be allowed in holiday rentals - here's what Australians think
With pet ownership at an all-time high in Australia and more and more Aussies looking to travel around the country, the question of whether or not to bring your furry companion along is one that often splits opinion.
Finding pet-friendly accommodation is one of the main considerations faced by travellers, and plenty of booking sites feature 'pets allowed' as a filter.
Despite this, when we asked the question 'should pets be allowed in holiday rentals?' in a recent Nine reader survey, almost of third of Aussies aren't convinced.

Specifically, 31 per cent of respondents answered no, believing pets should not be allowed in holiday rentals.
Though the majority (47 per cent) were all for it.
Out of all the respondents, 22 per cent said they were unsure, with plenty of people sharing they thought it was dependent on the rental and the owner.

"With holiday rentals this should be up to the owner / manager of the accommodation and needs to consider people that may rent a property with animal allergies," one person responded in a comment, adding owners should advise when an animal has been at a property.
Another said trained pets "should be afforded some liberties".
"We have been taking ours for some years now and we are willing to pay that little bit extra for the privilege, unfortunately, there are some who don't give a ..... spoiling it."

Plenty agreed saying specific rentals should allow pets, but not all.
"Pets in holiday rentals depends largely upon what kind of pet, and what kind of rental," one person responded.
"I don't have a pet, but am supportive of people who do."
Others stressed it was up to the pet owners to be responsible when travelling with their animals.
"Pet owners need to clean up after their dogs and be made to accept responsibility for the dogs' behaviour," one comment read.
And some thought it should be limited.
"No loud, yapping animals that might bother other people," one person said.
"The only animals allowed in holiday rental accommodation are service animals," another said.
