San Francisco's famous Lombard Street is so popular it could soon cost you to visit

Arguably the most recognisable residential street in the world, San Francisco's zig-zagging Lombard Street is so popular with tourists visitors to the area could be charged simply to drive down it.
According to residents, the area has been plagued by pedestrian and traffic issues for years, with around two million people reportedly passing through the crooked landmark every year – that's in the vicinity of 5000 visitors per day.
The city is reportedly considering imposing a toll on those who wish to drive down the street in a bid to increase safety and appease fed-up homeowners. Other proposals include stationing dedicated parking controllers at intersections at either end, and banning cars entirely.
Surprisingly, Lombard isn't the only crooked street in San Francisco – in fact, it's less-crooked than the city's Vermont Street by degrees – but it's certainly the most picturesque. Here's hoping happy snapping tourists will still have the opportunity to make their way down it when the changes are implemented.
