Three Aussie cities among the 'prettiest' destinations in the world
Cultural heritage, iconic landmarks, and vibrant nightlife are just some of the reasons we are drawn to visiting cities around the world.
Getting great photos could be another.
A new study from Travelbag has analysed Instagram hashtag data and Google search trends to reveal the most picturesque travel destinations.
Three Aussie destinations were named among the 'prettiest' in the world, but one surprising spot missed out.
Here are the top 12.
12. Vancouver, Canada
Kicking off the list is Vancouver in Canada, with close to 2,000 Google searches a month on average.
A popular filming location, it's surrounded by mountains, and also has thriving art, theatre and music scenes.
11. Perth, Australia
Western Australian capital Perth is the first Aussie city to make the list with over 25,000 hashtags.
Located where the Swan River meets the southwest coast. Sandy beaches line its suburbs, and the huge, riverside Kings Park and Botanic Garden on Mount Eliza offer sweeping views of the city.
10. Miami, USA
With close to 37,000 hashtags, Miami, Florida is also considered one of the 'prettiest' spots to travel to.
Aside from the beach, art galleries, museums and stunning street art are some of the best things to see in Miami.
8. Melbourne, Australia
The second Aussie destination to make the list is Melbourne, which ranks as the sixth prettiest city.
With just under 30,000 images under the hashtag #SummerinMelbourne on Instagram, visitors can enjoy the modern Federation Square development, or enjoy a stroll through plazas, bars, and restaurants by the Yarra River.
6. Paris, France
Currently hosting the Olympic Games, Paris is clearly one of the prettiest spots in the world, and considered the second best in Europe.
The staggering 161,133 Instagram posts under the hashtag #SummerinParis, emphasise the city's allure and picturesque charm.
5. Sydney, Australia
Sydney ranks as the fifth most picturesque summer destination, with over 45,000 hashtags and over 3,600 Google searches a month across the globe.
With Sydney's iconic harbour and surrounding beaches it's little surprise travellers will flock here during the warmer months.
4. Chicago, USA
Chicago landed in fourth place with 64,565 tagged Instagram posts and an average of 1,900 Google searches per month.
Chicago's main appeal in the summertime lies on the shores of stunning Lake Michigan, offering beautiful beaches and a cool lake breeze that makes the summer heat much more manageable.
3. London, UK
London is the prettiest city to visit in Europe, with an impressive 175,379 posts under the hashtag. The city has also garnered an average of 4,400 Google searches per month.
From Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace, the Tower Bridge and the Shard, there are plenty of beautiful aspects to the famous city.
2. Dubai, UAE
Dubai sits it second place, with over 56,000 Instagram posts under the hashtag #SummerinDubai.
With temperatures in the city exceeding 43 degrees Celsius during the summer months, one of the best ways to beat the summer heat and experience Dubai is by visiting some of the city's biggest attractions, such as Dubai Mall which houses Dubai Aquarium and the Underwater Zoo.
The air conditioning provides a refreshing escape from the intense heat, allowing visitors to explore comfortably.
