Airport baggage handler warns passengers not to plastic wrap their luggage for this surprising reason

An airport baggage handler has warned passengers not to wrap their luggage in plastic - but caused some controversy in doing so.

Adrian, who goes by @teh_deagz on TikTok, said baggage is more likely to get stuck on the luggage carousel through the airport, meaning it's likely to be treated roughly.

In a recently resurfaced video with the screen caption "dear travellers", he first shows himself throwing what he calls "a box of perishables" wrapped in clear plastic down a ramp, followed by a hard-shell suitcase wrapped in bubble wrap and, finally, a massive plastic wrapped frozen fish.

But despite the intended 'helpful' message, viewers rushed to the comments to express their anger.

"When you keep throwing it that way, people get more reason to wrap it," commented one user.

"After my last flight I'll be wrapping my suitcases. The cases were brand new but the workers destroyed them, probably by throwing them around," said another.

Others have explained the security reasons why they pack their suitcases with plastic wrap.

"The plastic wrapped bags are usually going to a high theft place and it's to keep things from being stolen or tampered with," said one user.

Adrian also advises against suitcases with a rubberised texture and poorly packed baby prams, both of which can get caught on luggage carousels.

An airline worker told 9Travel late last year that, if you don't want your luggage to get thrown around and damaged, you should buy one with functional wheels, a soft lining, and a hard outer shell.
