Oregon Tourism's 'only slightly exaggerated' cartoon ad will lure you in with magic

Giant cartoon bunnies, chauffeuring around young children on their backs. House-sized Chinook salmon leaping over rafts. Whales breaching in the sky.

You might be mistaken for thinking that Oregon Tourism's new ad campaign is a trailer for the latest Hayao Miyazaki film.

But this hilariously over-the-top bid to entice visitors is "only slightly exaggerated", according to the tongue-in-cheek campaign title.

Daringly ditching real-life footage for fantastical anime, the ad centred around 'The Magic Coast of Oregon' clearly doesn't take itself too seriously.

The short film uses animation to capture the magic of the state in a way that real-life photography just can't, according to the ad creatives.

The animators behind the 90-second clip actually travelled to the state to experience the magic for themselves before getting to work, and each location featured is a real place you can visit — just slightly exaggerated, obviously.

With an outdoorsy bent and aloof cool-kid tone about it, the state's tourism board has once again proven they're the master of the humble brag.

It's not the first time Oregon Tourism have stood out with their unique approach to luring visitors — in 2016, they won the internet with an ad campaign that oozed a "detached sense of cool", according to critics.

The posters, featuring stunning nature-scapes stamped with slogans like "It's just Oregon. No big deal." and "Your beach bod will look great under all those layers.", perfectly capture the state's blasé, hipster sensibility.
