A 4000-tree pop-up forest is coming to New York City

The world's greatest urban jungle, New York, is getting back to nature, with 4000 redwood trees to be placed in the heart of Brooklyn.

The pop-up forest is the brain child of artist Spencer Finch and will be installed in Downtown’s Metrotech Commons. It will open to the public on October 1. 

The project will be a 1:100 scale version of California's spectacular 320-hectare Redwood National Park.

Visitors will be able to wander among the trees, or just enjoy the view from a nearby platform.

The Californian trees which inspired the project can grow up to 115 metres, but their Brooklyn counterparts will be a much more modest size, standing at around 1 metre tall.

The exhibit will be called: "Spencer Finch: Lost Man Creek", and will be on display until May 2018.
