Artist reveals plans to cover desert in a giant NASA blanket

Remember the glorious primary school days when the teacher would whip out that giant multi-coloured parachute and waved it around while you crawled underneath?

Well, you might be able to recreate that childhood magic at this year's Burning man.

Leading the line-up of boundary-pushing art instalments that define the wild Nevada Festival, is a giant blanket made entirely out of NASA space blankets.

As seen in the video above, the reflective material will consist of 3350 pieces of material across a section of 10,000 square-feet in the middle of the desert, because why not?

Dubbed 'The Blanket Project,' the concept created by Russian architect Alex Shtanuk was inspired by Lake Lahontan, an ancient body of water that was in place of the Black Rock Desert and dried out thousands of years ago.

Plans to bring the elaborate idea to life are currently underway. A crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo has kicked off, hoping to raise US$17,500 (around $23,600) to cover the cost of materials

Burning Man is an annual 'anti-festival' held in the Black Rock Desert of northwest Nevada. Over several days, creatives flock to the abandoned era and erect a temporary city. Neither accommodation, acts or entertainment is provided, that's left in the hands of those who decide to rock up.

The global cultural movement is based on 10 practical principles revolving around expression and self-love. At the end of the festival, everyone packs up and disposes of all materials, ensuring they leave the desert exactly as they found it.

Burning Man 2018 will begin on 26 August.
