The 'most welcoming' places in Australia, according to travellers
When you ask any international traveller what they loved about visiting Australia, many will say "the people".
We're known for generally being a relatively friendly bunch, and now new data has revealed the 'most welcoming' places in the whole country.
Booking.com has unveiled the winners of its 14th annual Traveller Review Awards, compiled from over 370 million verified reviews from travellers globally.
This list highlights destinations where the guest experience feels personal, authentic, and genuinely cared for.
Here are the top 10.
10. St Helens, Tasmania
St Helens is a coastal town in northeast Tasmania that serves as the gateway to the iconic Bay of Fires.
Known for its game fishing and oysters, the bustling town also has a ton of outdoor activities like diving, biking, and boating.
9. Daylesford, Victoria
Voted Australia's 'favourite regional town' by our readers in 2024a town in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range.
Known for its mineral springs, it's tucked amongst farmland and forest, and is a charming place for a weekend away.
8. Ocean Grove, Victoria
Ocean Grove is located on the Bellarine Peninsula. The a popular surf town surrounded by renowned wineries, pristine beaches and golf courses.
7. Bicheno, Tasmania
Bicheno is found on the east coast of Tasmania, cradled between Douglas-Apsley National Park and Freycinet National Park.
Locals in town received a big shout out from Nine.com.au reporter Jo Abi, said: "Driving into Bicheno felt like the weight of the world lifting off both our shoulders."
6. Port Lincoln, South Australia
Located on the Eyre Peninsula, in South Australia, Port Lincoln is known for its fishing industry and seafood.
Nearby, mostly surrounded by water, is the rugged Lincoln National Park - another popular place for outdoor travellers.
5. Maleny, Queensland
Maleny is a beautiful spot in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Think picture-postcard dairy cow country, interspersed with rainforests and sweeping views of the Glass House Mountains.
4. Port Campbell, Victoria
Port Campbell is a picturesque seaside town located on the Great Ocean Road.
It serves as a primary hub for visitors exploring the 12 Apostles and the beaches of the nearby Port Campbell National Park.
3. Margaret River, Western Australia
Holding on to its third placing from last year is Margaret River.
The small town south of Perth in Western Australia is well known for its craft breweries, boutiques and surrounding wineries.
2. Montville, Queensland
In second place (falling from the top spot in 2024) is Montville in Queensland, found in the middle of Kondalilla National Park.
The area boasts waterfalls, galleriesm shops and restaurants, plus a bunch of welcoming locals.
