Jetstar enter airline price wars with $41 flights to Tasmania

Jetstar has officially entered the airline price wars, today announcing a Tasmania sale with fares starting from $41 (Melbourne to Launceston).

The ultra-low $41 entry price point undercuts rival airlines Virgin Australia and Rex Airlines, who yesterday both announced $49 services between Sydney and Melbourne.

Travellers can score sale fares between late-February to late-March, late-April to late-June, and late-July to mid-September.

Among the best of the bargains are one-way flights from Adelaide to Hobart from $75, Brisbane to Launceston from $99, Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Hobart from $45 and Sydney to Hobart from $59.

It's the latest travel promotion in a succession of airline mega sales, that kicked into gear earlier this week when Qantas announced a million seat sale, and unveiled a new, million seat sale that guaranteed unlimited flight date changes until January 2022.

This prompted Virgin Australia to extend their domestic seat blitz sale to February 15, and match Qantas' policy, committing to waiving change and cancel fees until January 31 for all bookings made before April 30, 2021.

Then yesterday Rex launched their own Sydney-Melbourne service, disrupting the Qantas and Virgin Australia duopoly on the popular the route.

With a special launch price of $49, Rex's deputy chairman, the Hon John Sharp AM bragged that flights were cheaper than "most taxi rides to the airport", stirring Virgin to match the unheard-of price.
