Located at the base of Mauna Loa volcano next to Kilauea, aka where the lava meets the ocean, the cosy 450-square-foot home is far enough away from the tourist hub of the island, and just a bike ride away from a 100-foot lava waterfall.

As noted on the home’s advert, it’s the ideal place to rest, rejuvenate and is a unique retreat space for people to come visit in “times of reverence, contemplation, and healing.”

ArtisTree, the green design team who specialise in environmentally friendly holiday homes and tree houses, are the masterminds behind this innovative concept. It’s built entirely from recycled materials, is solar powered and aims to remind us of the “temporal nature of life and the importance of living in the moment.”
