One for the history books: Former Life Magazine headquarters become a luxury hotel

From next month, travellers to New York City can step back into the pages of history with a stay in a classic located in the former Life Magazine headquarters.

, set to open in early April, is located in the iconic building that housed the famous magazine in its 1930s heyday. 

Inside, guests won't just be able to live like a journalist – they'll be able to drink like one too: During the Prohibition era, a bar was located in the building's basement. It will be reopened as a speakeasy-style venue serving classic cocktails and accessed via a hidden staircase from the lobby.

The 98-room hotel will allow guests to experience the history of the building, built in 1893, with modern touches like unique artworks, contemporary furnishings, and all-natural, socially conscious Lather bath products.

Guests will also be able to dine in the full-service Life Restaurant, run by Chef Michael Vignola and veteran restaurateur Stephen Hanson.
