Trash cans in NYC are being transformed into beautiful flower sculptures
The lifespan of the floral centrepiece has always been strikingly short, but New York florist Lewis Miller is blowing a little more life into used blooms by leaving incredible flower sculptures around the city.
The well-known renegade florist creates "Flower Flashes" early each morning by using flowers from the previous night’s events and placing them in trashcans around New York.
"Gifting flowers to New Yorkers is a simple idea that I have been thinking about for years," Lewis told Vogue.com. "I am in the business of fantasy and flowers, and it’s my job to transform key moments in my clients’ lives into joyful, everlasting memories. I wanted to recreate a similar feeling for the everyday city-dwellers and tourists of New York City."
In the style of UK artists Banksy, Miller and his team create the works of art at around 5am every morning, leaving a simple chalk-based calling card of LMD X NYC.
Perhaps the most surprising part is they only take around 10 minutes, sometimes less, to create. "We never broadcast where our next flash will be,” Miller said. “They just pop up randomly."
