Mumbai taxis become beautiful moving artworks

For most people, relying on taxis is one of the more annoying things about travelling. But a clever art project in Mumbai is changing grubby cabs into travelling art exhibitions, making trips much more enjoyable for locals and tourists alike.

Traditionally in Mumbai, taxi drivers decorate their cars so they stand out from their competitors. Often the outside is painted, but little is done to the upholstery. A group of creatives saw this as an opportunity for local designers to collaborate with taxi drivers to create beautiful interior designs.

The project called Taxi Fabric was funded by $16,000 of online donations from the public and the results are stunning.

Not only do the taxi drivers get the opportunity to stand out from the crowd, the designers are able to showcase their artwork to the hundreds of people who use the cab on a weekly basis.

The taxi drivers have reported they're getting more fares and their customers are engaging with them more.
