The safest cities for female digital nomads to work remotely in 2025
10. Ubud, Indonesia
Ubud is a lush town in the uplands of tourist haven Bali in Indonesia, and the 10th safest-feeling city for female digital nomads.
In Holidu's survey, 81 per cent of women spoken to said they felt comfortable walking alone, and locals' friendlieness towards foreigners and females both received an overall rating of 'Good'.
At the same time, Ubud has one of the highest percentages of female digital nomads compared to the total digital nomads in the city, at 23 per cent.
9. Saskatoon, Canada
Saskatoon, the largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, is one of the safest cities for female digital nomads to work remotely.
With a rich natural landscape and cool climate, it received a 'Great' score for locals' friendliness towards foreigners and towards women.
Despite a slightly lower percentage of women saying they felt comfortable walking alone - 69 per cent - than Ubud, the friendly atmosphere of the city brings Saskatoon up to ninth place.
Saskatoon has the highest percentage of female digital nomads - one quarter - to total digital nomads compared to every other city on this list.
8. Porto, Portugal
Known for its colourful facades overlooking the river, Porto is a trending location for all kinds of travellers at the moment - and, if you needed any more reasons to visit, the eighth safest city for women based on Holidu's research.
An impressive 87 per cent of women said they felt comfortable walking alone in the city, while locals' friendliness towards foreigners and women was slightly lower, receiving a 'Good' rating.
Portugal scored impressively across the board, with all five of the six cities in the Holidu campaign being in the top 20.
The country welcomes digital nomads on its dedicated visa, which allows remote workers to live and work in the country for up to a year.
7. Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Kaohsiung is coastal city located in southern Taiwan, and the country's largest international port.
While less well known than northern capital Taipei, Kaohsiung is a great pick for female digital nomads looking for a longer stay.
According to Holidu, 82 per cent of women said they felt comfortable walking around the city alone, while locals' friendliness towards foreigners and women was deemed 'Great' overall.
6. Valencia, Spain
Valencia is Spain's third most populous city after Barcelona and Madrid, home to iconic Art Nouveau architecture, Mediterranean beaches, and green spaces.
It's also the sixth safest city for female digital nomads, who make up 22 per cent of all digital nomads in the city.
Around 82 per cent of women said they felt safe walking around Valencia alone, while locals' friendliness towards women was deemed 'Great' by most.
While the city's friendliness towards foreigners scored slightly lower ('Good'), Valencia is a good choice for women working remotely who want a Mediterranean experience without the danger of a major European city.
5. Penang, Malaysia
Penang is a Malaysian state famous for its tropical nature and colonial architecture.
While only 19 per cent of digital nomads in the city are women, 81 per cent of them said they felt safe walking alone.
If you needed more convincing, locals' friendliness towards both foreigners and women were both scored as 'Great'.
4. Venice, Italy
This tourist hotspot may come as a surprise, but Venice - the only Italian city to make the list - is one of the safest destinations for women to visit and live.
As a city without cars, trains, buses, or roads, getting around Venice happens almost entirely on foot (or by boat), and 78 per cent of women said they felt safe walking around the city alone.
Locals' friendliness towards women and foreigners was scored as 'Great' overall, and 20 per cent of the city's digital nomads are women.
3. Montevideo, Uruguay
Montevideo is an South American hidden gem, the Uruguayan capital coming in as the third safest place for female digital nomads.
Known for its architecture, culture, and street food, the city is very friendly towards foreigners and women, and 87 per cent of female digital nomads said they felt safe walking around alone.
2. Chiang Rai, Thailand
Chiang Rai is a city in northern Thailand, near the borders of Laos and Myanmar.
Known for its ornate temples including the Wat Rong Khun or White Temple (pictured), this underrated Thai city is also incredibly safe for women travellers; 93 per cent of those analysed by Holidu said they felt safe walking around alone in the city, the highest percentage of any city on this list.
While locals' friendliness towards foreigners overall scored high, friendliness specifically towards women was lower, receiving an 'Okay' rating.
1. Taipei, Taiwan
Taiwan's capital is the safest city for female digital nomads, receiving the best scores overall in Holidu's study.
The second city in Taiwan on this list, Taipei is perfect for travellers desiring a busy, modern Asian city similar to Hong Kong or Tokyo, with crowded shopping streets, contemporary architecture, street markets, and a famous food culture.
The friendliness of Taipei locals towards women and foreigners was 'Great' overall, while 90 per cent of women analysed said they felt safe walking around alone.
However, just 19 per cent of digital nomads in the city currently are women, one of the lowest proportions on this list, suggesting that safety isn't the only factor determining where female nomads go.
