Why now is the best time to book a New Zealand ski holiday

After officially reopening borders to Aussies in April, many are expected to venture back to New Zealand for their snow fix this winter.

And with tourists and cruise ships also allowed back from July, you might be wondering whether now is the right time to book.

The experts at Air New Zealand have shared some handy tips to help get the best deal for your next ski trip across the ditch, including the best time to travel.

To find the cheapest fares into New Zealand, the team recommends booking as far in advance as you can.

Now, if you're worried that means you've already missed the boat, never fear.

As you might expect, it's actually better to travel outside of peak seasons such as school holiday periods if you can.

In New Zealand, sometimes spring skiing is the best as you get the clear blue days and great snow, so consider booking your holiday for late August for a cheaper fare and quieter mountain.

Queenstown remains the most popular skiing destination in New Zealand, according to the experts.

"There's something incredibly special about the ski season in Queenstown and we know that Aussies are keen to hit the New Zealand slopes after two years of missing out," Air New Zealand Chief Customer and Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty tells 9Honey.

"We are already seeing strong demand over the school holiday period and beyond. In just a few short hours, holiday makers can be touching down in the ski resort and up the slopes ready for an action packed winter break in the adventure capital of the world."

The airline's direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to Queenstown restart from June 24.
