Ice cascades turn a little-known Beijing gorge into a winter wonderland

Though it's not as well-known as many of China's other national tourist attractions, a quiet valley in Beijing's southwestern suburbs is drawing visitors with its unique crystal cascades.

At the entrance to the Shenquan Gorge scenic spot in China's Mentougou District, an arch-shaped artificial cascade made from ice-covered vines surprises and delights visitors.

Natural ice cascades also form in the mountains, with visitors treated to an otherworldly view of water floating under the ice as they approach.
