Hotel decides rate based on how long you can stay off the internet

Snagging a killer deal on accommodation can make all the difference when it comes to stretching your travel budget, but how far would you be willing to go for a free stay?

One hotel in Sweden is offering up a night in one of their suites at no cost on one condition – you can’t spend any time online.

Hotel Bellora has teamed up with Swedish insurance company Länsförsäkringar to launch The Check Out Suite, encouraging its visitors to spend more time with their loved ones, and less time on their smart phones.

The room is kitted out with a state-of-the-art, screen-free smart lamp, which calculates the amount of time is spent on social media. While a guest spends time online, the lamp gradually changes from white to red in tone, measuring how much time is spent on the web.

If a guest spends a total of 30 minutes online, the lamp will turn red and they will be charged the full amount for the room.

The less time they spend, the cheaper the room will be and if they manage to avoid the internet all together, they will snag a totally free stay.
