Popular Spanish beach closed after 'poo bacteria' found in water
A popular Spanish holiday spot has become the latest victim in a string of beach closures across Europe.
Warnings have been issued by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council after faecal bacteria was found to have contaminated the water of Las Alcaravaneras beach on the Canary islands.
Due to the high levels of the dangerous bacteria, local authorities have erected signs and banned swimming until at least August 31.

The abnormal increase in bacteria was discovered during a weekly analysis of the city's beaches, The Sun reports.
The Enterococcus bacteria can lead to health issues for beachgoers including fevers, headaches, vomiting, and rashes.
It comes after dangerous bacteria was also been found in the water at Rhos-on-Sea and Colwyn Bay in Wales due to exceptional rainfall.
Signs were erected earlier this month saying the beaches had an "increased risk that water quality may be affected by pollution".

A week earlier, swimmers were also advised to stay out of the ocean in Kent, in the South East of England.
Health warnings have been increasing all around the UK during the busy summer holiday period, with 54 beaches across the UK on a "sewage pollution alert" last month.
